Gardening for Community – Camden Garden Club Winter Horticulture Series

“Gardening for Community” will be the topic of the next segment of Camden Garden Club’s Winter Horticulture Series at the Camden Public Library on Tuesday, February 13 at 10:00 a.m. Almost 30 years ago, speaker Ev Donnelly Donnelly moved to Maine with her then husband and business partner Kerry Altiero to open Café’ Miranda in Rockland. For the next 17 years, as co-owner of the restaurant, Ms. Donnelly was the dessert chef and waited tables while simultaneously raising a son and managing a side business of hand-crafted fine leather goods.
After her divorce, Ev took the opportunity to complete her degree in Mental Health and Human Services and began work at Knox County Homeless Coalition almost immediately after they opened the shelter in 2014. Although trained in case management, she has used her formal education to create and manage a robust and trauma-informed volunteer and mentor program that sees 300+ volunteers donate in excess of 3000 hours annually. In addition, she manages the donation center at KCHC and the supplemental nutrition program complete with food pantry and community garden for clients and alumni.
Camden Garden Club is a member of the Garden Club Federation of Maine and National Garden Clubs, Inc. Guests and prospective members are always welcome. For more information about the club and its activities visit www.camdengardenclub.org. The weekly Winter Horticulture Series is free and open to the public and will continue on Tuesdays throughout February.
