Maine Birds and Their Habitats Field Trips

2017 Lyceum Field Trips “Maine Birds and Their Habitats”
Join the Kennebec Land Trust and Augusta Birding Club for the annual Lyceum field trips. These programs accompany our March lecture series.

Saturday, May 20, 2017 8 AM
Hutchinson Pond, Manchester
We will see many migratory and breeding birds as we explore the trails through fields and woods, with views of a wetland pond and Hutchinson Pond. You never know which migratory birds will be present on any given day, but potential breeding birds include various warblers, alder flycatcher, wood duck, yellow-bellied sapsucker, and blue-headed vireo. The trails can be muddy and buggy.

Saturday, June 10, 2017 8 AM
Torsey Pond Nature Preserve, Readfield
We will look for breeding birds in the Preserve woods and for wetland birds at the Preserve’s duck blind. Ninety-nine species of birds have been documented at this preserve. Will we find the hundredth species? Potential birds include various warblers, Virginia rail, swamp sparrow, sandhill crane, hermit thrush, and scarlet tanager.
