Maine-ly Harmony at the Sawyer Memorial

Maine-ly Harmony, an all-women’s a cappella chorus, will be performing at the Sawyer Memorial on Friday, May 19th at 2 and 7 p.m.

Maine-ly Harmony is an a cappella women’s chorus, directed by Kathy Greason, that meets every Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army, Eastern Ave. in Augusta. Members hail from as far as Bangor and Auburn, as well as Central Maine communities, singing the barbershop style of four-part harmony throughout the state. The local chorus is a chapter of Harmony, Inc., an international organization, encompassing the United States and Canada, which offers competitions, coaching and educational classes throughout the year. In keeping the Harmony, Inc. motto, “A blend with Friendship,” members develop life-long friendships that span generations and that have no geographic boundaries. Chartered in 1989, we are celebrating 28 years of harmony in 2017!

Barbershop harmony is a style of four-part, unaccompanied singing. The style is characterized by a dominant, familiar melody sung by the “lead” and supported by three harmony parts–the tenor above the lead, the bass below the lead, and the baritone, filling in the middle chords. The style is adaptable to songs of many eras–from those sung in the parlor in the 1890s to songs of today.

Shows will be on Friday, May 12th at 2 & 7 p.m. at the Araxine Wilkins Sawyer Memorial, 371 Sawyer Road, Greene. Free admission! FMI call 946-5311, visit or
