Merrill Film Society: T.A.M.I.

In conjunction with the theme of this year’s summer reading program, Libraries Rock, Merrill Film Society is screening some of the greatest rock and roll movies ever made.

The rock doc/concert film genre begins with The T.A.M.I. Show, the film of a concert held at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in October 1964 featuring the rock stars of the day: Chuck Berry, Gerry & the Pacemakers, Jan & Dean, the Beach Boys, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, and Lesley Gore. Famously, the Rolling Stones were the last to go on, after James Brown already blew everyone’s mind with what was “the single greatest rock ‘n’ roll performance ever captured on film,” simply impossible for anyone to follow. A favorite film among rock enthusiasts.

THE T.A.M.I SHOW screens in Lewis Hall on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 7 PM. This event is free and open to the public.
