Watercolor works by Rachel Feero Oakes

The Gibbs Library, Washington Village, Washington, will feature the work of Rachel Feero Oakes, through Tuesday, Sept. 5. Her exhibit features watercolor works of birds, flowers, landscapes and images for an unfinished children’s book.

Oakes is an artist born and raised in the beautiful state of Maine, though her travels have taken her all over the US, as well as Italy, and the Czech Republic. She inherited her love of art from her mother, an artist and wildlife woodcarver. She attended Heartwood College of Art in Kennebunk, the Academy of Carlo Pittore, and has studied and worked with many coastal Maine artists.

Her work includes portraits, figurative art, botanical and wildlife studies, and sculpture. She works mostly in watercolor and ink, and sculpts in stone and clay. She ecently branched out into photography, at first as a means of creating reference material for paintings, but is now beginning to pursue it as an art form.

Oakes lives in Washington with her husband and three children. She is grateful that her art allows her to work from home while caring for, and homeschooling their children.

The Gibbs Library is located at 40 Old Union Road, in Washington Village.
